Got Snow?

We sure do!!


What is this you ask? Why it's my car covered in last night's snow fall. I think by the time it stopped we had about 18 inches of fresh snow.

Compare with this photo taken a week ago. Can you tell the difference? Yes the tree on the right is the same one.
Yes, we definitely got snow here.

Peace be unto you

Peace.

We all want it, but so very few have it. Where does it come from?

Everyone is calling for peace on earth these days. Sorry folks, not going to happen until this earth we live on is destroyed. Now, peace in the hearts of men, that is totally possible for those willing to count the cost. What is the cost you ask? In my Bible study this morning I was reading about peace, true peace. Peace that comes from the author of that very thing. It comes through believing in Christ and his sacrifice on the cross.

"For he himself is our peace..." Eph. 1:14a

It is only through his blood that we can have it, and it's free to boot. All you have to do is let the Spirit of God work in your life, realize your need for forgiveness of your sins, and believe.

May you have the peace that passes all understanding this holiday season.

Brrrr....

Well, it's cold here in Juneau. Really cold for these parts. Well, it's about 12 degrees at the airport, but here at my house it's quite a bit colder due to the lack of sun to warm it up and the glacier down the road keeping the temperatures cooler. My thermometer says it's 4 degrees, and that is up from the -2 it was this morning when I first looked at it. Then there's the wind chill that makes it feel even colder. We've got ice on our windows and humoungous icicles hanging off the back of our house. I suspect it's from the bathroom fan.

Coldness aside, how was everyone's Thanksgiving. Ours here was just wonderful. The in-laws came down from Anchorage and we all kept warm together. At least we attempted to. We barbecued the turkey and I have to say that it was the best turkey I have ever eaten. Better than the turducken we had 2 years ago. Nothing like hickory smoked turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, all the food was delicious, but my oh my, that turkey took the prize. The rest of the weekend was spent eating leftovers, relaxing, shooting for the guys, and some shopping for the girls. We just couldn't pass up the yarn sale at the LYS now could we. Which reminds me, I have some knitting to show you.
Here are Nepalese Mittens from knit mittens! by Robin Hansen. Knit on size 8 double points out of Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride, colors of which I don't recall... white, blue and green. I knit them in four days and was very thankful for them these last few weeks cause they keep my hands warm. They did felt a little after I played in the snow with them, so now they are a bit to small, but they still do their job. Will make them a little larger on the next pair.
Here's some detail on the cuff. I needed something to add some interest to the otherwise simple mittens.

And now... My clapotis...It's not a great picture, but there isn't much sunlight that hits my little house. The above picture is taken in natural light, and is pretty much what I see when I look at it. The following picture was taken using the flash, and it shows how pretty the colors are. It's a very subtle colorway, not very bright, I like it alot. I've started part 2, but haven't gotten too far.
This is my substitute teaching project. I take it with me to work because I never know what will happen and frequently have time on my hands to do some knitting.

Chickadees and Nuthatches

Any guesses what this post is about? This ones for the birds.

This spring the hubby and I bought a bird feeder set. One for the hummingbirds, the other for the small bird seed eaters. I had bought one before and put it out on the back porch. Alas, it was poorly made of wood and with all the rain we get here, croaked and the seed, being in such a most, warm environment, promptly sprouted. Well, now being a little wiser, we place the new bird feeder out front under the roof over our "porch". It's a sad excuse for a porch, being made of very rocky cement. Since then we frequently get birds feeding. Usually chestnut-backed chickadees, being too far south and coastal for black-capped. This morning I noticed a red-breasted nuthatch. However, the most amusing bird of them all at the feeder is the Stellar Jay. Our bird feeder is a mite bit small for these guys, being about twice their size. They kind of hang off of it in an attempt to get some bird seed to the ground and then jump off and eat what their efforts have provided.

Now, our dear little D.W. discovered these birds one day. I heard this strange little cat mews in the living room and entered to find her sitting on the computer desk staring at the feeder, tail wagging and licking her chops. She seemed very distraught at the window between her and her prey. It was quite amusing.
