Movement on the Outside

Well, where to begin. It's windy outside, but that isn't what I refer to.

Today I was lying on my back trying to listen for a heartbeat, a futile effort at this stage, but I still had to try. As I was pressing the stethoscope against my abdomen what do I notice but something, someone, is pushing back. So I tossed away the stethoscope and just felt my abdomen and waited for the response, of course there was one. Because I can feel these pushes on the inside, it's been difficult for me to tell when they are making their way through to the outside. The reason that this is exciting for me is that now when I feel the movements and can call to the hubby, when he's home (he's flying and working on a plane in Gustavus as I write this), to come and feel the little one's kicks. I know he'll appreciate this, as he has been much more excited about the upcoming addition since the ultrasound. In addition to the growth of the baby, I was excited to get on the scale earlier this week and discover that I gained a couple more pounds. This put my total weight gain so far at about 5 lbs. Because I don't want to have to work extra hard at losing pregnancy weight and the weight I put on previously I'd like to keep my weight gain at a slow crawl. Since it has been difficult for me to put on the last few, I hope that this will continue and I'll have to work at gaining weight, we'll see.

In other news, I have some knitting to show you. The object I've been working on most is the Clapotis wrap, from Knitty. Here it is hanging out on the fence that the hubby is working on, in the sun to boot (it started raining not too long after I took this).

This photo shows the colors very nicely, as well as the length (approx. 3 ft) after just less than one skein of Mountain Colors Barefoot. Here is an old photo of it. When I add the second skein it should be plenty long to wrap around my shoulders. What you can't see to well is the detail of the drop stitches, but that will come with future photos I'm sure. I really want to get this done so I can get started on the next project using this luscious yarn:

That would be some Lorna's Laces shepherd worsted in Devon. I have 3 skeins of it. Every photo I took had bright blue washing out. This is going to be a Back Zip Baby Jacket, by Fiber Trends. Um, I couldn't help myself when I saw the yarn. My LYS just started carrying Lorna's Laces and the colors are so pretty. This shepherd worsted will make a great baby sweater, its superwash!! But, I need to finish the clapotis so that I can use those needles. I think it's great incentive in finishing an object. I definitely do NOT need to go and by another set of circulars (I can't use the cheap kind) because the yarn was not cheap. However, I do hope to use this jacket with multiple children (the yarn should be neutral enough, don't you think?), so that makes it worth what I paid for it. At least I think so.

Girl > Boy

So, um... this is my once monthly post, ha ha. Just kidding, I hope. Went to my 20 week ultrasound appointment today. Very exciting. We'll have pictures posted as soon as we get them scanned into the computer. You'll get to see some very solid looking bones that look like mini arm and leg bones, and maybe the spine. Our baby girl? has a very nice looking spine and brain and organs look good too. This alleviated many of my worries about the little ones development. So now after having some measurements taken, the ultrasound tech gave us an estimated due date of the first week of Sept. This will make travelling in July even more of a challenge, but that's okay. I've still hardly gained any weight and I've been walking plenty with all the nice weather we're having, as can be seen here in a photo taken several weeks ago, but it's about the same, just less snow. Yeah!!


This picture was taken out at Mendenhall glacier. A sure sign of spring: Pussy willows!! The willow tree in my yard, that I refuse to cut down because it bears these every spring, currently has much smaller versions of these growing on it. Very exciting. I even got a glimpse, a very small one mind you, of the grass in the middle of my front yard. It is so nice and springy here it makes me want to just sit outside and enjoy the sun. Hope your springs are coming along likewise.

Oh and, as for the gender of the little one... it's most likely a girl, but there is a small chance it could be a boy. So, we'll be expecting a girl while being prepared for a maybe boy. As for the name, you'll just have to wait till she's born.
